There is no yellow quite like the sun hitting the limestone at Barton Springs.
Named after the crown jewel of Austin, Barton Gold is a focused study of a yellow prickly pear blossom just before the full bloom. By zooming in on the silky petals, I wanted to capture the intersection of our rugged Texas landscape and that refreshing, “liquid gold” light we all chase during an Austin summer.
This piece isn’t about the thorns or the desert - it’s a tribute to the delicate, vibrant spirit of the city we call home. I’ve layered this blossom with heavy-body textures to make sure the petals don’t just sit on the canvas - they reach out. It’s a reminder that we aren’t meant to stay small; we’re meant to bloom wide and soak up every bit of the light.
