If you live in Austin, you know that moment. The sun dips behind the Hill Country. The humidity breaks. Suddenly, the entire horizon glows with a deep, electric purple.
Since 1894, we’ve called it the “Violet Crown.”
I wanted to bottle that atmosphere. I took the prickly pear blossom - a symbol of Texas grit - and drenched it in those atmospheric twilight hues.
Despite its size, the texture is unapologetic. I used my palette knife to build up “petals” that stand off the canvas. It’s a reminder that you don’t need a massive stage to make a massive statement.
The painting is signed, wired, and ready to hang. Varnished for UV, moisture, and dust protection.
